Franklin Pierce Launches New Online EMS Program

Emergency Medical Services

January 9, 2017

Franklin Pierce University, a leader in healthcare education, announced today the launch of a new online Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program uniquely designed for the needs of working professionals.

The EMS program—which is exclusively offered online through Franklin Pierce’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies —is an interdisciplinary adult learning program that prepares certified and licensed professionals to advance their careers in government, education, and emergency response.

With increasing demand for management personnel in Medical Services and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) employment rates projected to grow 24% between 2014-2024*— a much faster than average rate— Franklin Pierce’s program offers its graduates the opportunity to broaden their expertise and acquire a deep understanding of the diverse nature of the emergency medical services field.  Students may choose one of two paths: management or social sciences, depending on their background and professional interests.

EMS program students will explore legal, political, and regulatory assessments in EMS settings, and study emerging technology-based health applications, healthy work environments, gaining industry knowledge necessary to be effective in their role as providers or managers. Credit earned for training could reduce students’ time to degree completion by 18 months or more, saving program participants time and money.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for certified EMTs, licensed paramedics, emergency nurses, firefighters, police officers, military reservists and veterans, and any first responders to take their careers to the next level,” said Dr. Maria Altobello, Dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. “By enabling graduates to search for work in multiple sectors, it expands their potential and influence in the marketplace.”

EMS majors are also afforded a Pathway Program, which allows Franklin Pierce graduates the opportunity to continue on to graduate study, in this case earning an MBA in Health Administration degree.

This timely addition to Franklin Pierce University’s curriculum will be available to students in January 2017.
