Phyllis Scrocco Zrzavy, B.Phil., B.S., M.Ed., Ph.D.
Professor
Professor Zrzavy holds a Ph.D. degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and has undertaken post-doctoral studies on the media and popular culture in the Professional Program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As a specialist in media theory and media criticism, she focuses on communication as a theoretical and practical concept and examines the social impact of the mass media and other forms of electronic communication, including the Internet.
Dr. Zrzavy’s professional engagements vary extensively: She has presented papers at conferences in the United States and Canada; she has held a teaching appointment in the areas of communication and media studies at Regents College in London, England, and has lectured at the University of Graz, Austria; she served with former Governor Steve Merrill and former New Hampshire Attorney General Jeffrey Howard on a public panel devoted to the exercise of free speech; and she was the key organizer of two day-long Mass Communication conferences at Franklin Pierce University
(1988, 1999). Prof. Zrzavy is listed in the Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2004.
Dr. Zrzavy’s current professional and research interests lie in the area of media literacy. She is a member of the Parents Television Council (PTC) and is active in two media literacy associations, the Action Coalition for Media Education (ACME) and the Alliance For A Media Literate America (AMLA).
