Assessment Plan
In accordance with national trends in higher education, the Franklin Pierce English Department is in process of implementing a plan for assessing student learning outcomes and the quality of program instruction. To date, the implementation includes the following components:
- Comprehensive Program Learning Goals
- Electronic portfolio (via www.taskstream.com) for collecting and assessing artifacts of student learning
- Two new courses for student self-assessment & faculty evaluation of portfolio contents (and for educational/career planning)
- Senior Competency Exam, with essay and oral components (preexisting requirement now scored in accordance with Program Learning Goals and reviewed with an eye to assessment of instructional quality); note that both scoresheets below exist as Excel files, capable of aggregating data in various ways
- Annual Departmental faculty workshop to review assessment data and identify desired changes in curriculum and instruction
