Presentation Title: "Take A Seat: Flexible Seating in Middle School"
Abstract:
Characterization in literature is used to portray social status, enhance plot and develop themes, but what other medias are equipped to share these nuances? My project (and my co-presenters Jenna Parent and Kaylee Geheb projects) look to communicate ideas found in literature in a non-traditional format. How can artistic interpretations of literature enhance the text? In my presentation, I will play an original song based on the internal dialogue of Prince Hamlet, from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. My piece encapsulates the thoughts of young Hamlet near the end of the play. After the loss of his father, mother, and admirer Ophelia, Hamlet’s faced with a plethora of unexpected grief. He simultaneously has to build courage to avenge his father's ghost while pondering concepts of family and saving the kingdom of Denmark. My intention is to portray the lessons Hamlet has learned about death, betrayal, and loyalty through his perspective. My presentation will include providing background information of the play, showing/explaining my piece and discussion of my creative process during the creation of the song. I hope this project will pique interest in the play and Shakespeare overall, as well as show literary analysis can be demonstrated in unique forms.
