School of Nursing offers accelerated MSN for second career nurses

June 10, 2020

Franklin Pierce University School of Nursing announced the addition of a new Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN), which will begin in the fall of the 2020-21 academic year. The MEPN program is an accelerated Master of Science in Nursing program for professionals who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in another field and are considering nursing as a second career. While the number of accelerated masters in nursing programs has grown rapidly in other parts of the country, Franklin Pierce’s MEPN program is the first of its kind in New England. At Franklin Pierce, MEPN students can earn both their RN and Master of Science in Nursing in an intensive program delivered over 18 months.

Franklin Pierce’s MEPN program will provide students with a general foundation in nursing as well as master’s level courses that impart the necessary skills for future success in key nursing leadership roles in healthcare. The program will exceed the minimum requirements of the New Hampshire Board of Nursing in classroom instruction and concurrent clinical practice hours for registered nurses, and will include master’s level online courses that meet the standards of the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN). Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and graduate with a Master of Science in Nursing.

New MEPN Program
“Graduates of the Franklin Pierce MEPN program will be well prepared to assume leadership roles in healthcare settings. Drawing upon their advanced knowledge from nursing and related disciplines, students will be poised to become collaborative leaders in the advancement of the nursing profession. Graduates of accelerated programs are prized by nursing leaders, who value the many layers of skill and diverse professional experience these graduates bring to the workplace,” said Dr. Paula McWilliam, Director of the School of Nursing at Franklin Pierce.
