The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team welcomed MetroLacrosse to the bubble this past week for the FPU Women’s Lacrosse Winter Thaw Clinic.

MetroLacrosse is a non-profit sports-based youth development program whose mission is to foster positive life enrichment, character development, and healthy life choices among urban youth and teens through enhanced participation in the team sport of lacrosse.

The Ravens welcomed the players, participated in some stick handling, dodge, and drive drills on the turf. On staff on MetroLacrosse was former Raven goalkeeper Denise Hunt and a former Division I player from Loyola Maryland.

The FPU Women’s Lacrosse Winter Thaw Clinic was a great opportunity for the MetroLacrosse players. There are limited opportunities for these girls to visit college campuses and be looked at by college lacrosse coaches.

“As an alumnus of Franklin Pierce University and the Women’s Lacrosse Team I knew the girls would have a great time at the clinic” said Hunt. “Coach Lonergan has been an incredible mentor. Her passion for the game and extensive knowledge is something that I have always admired. I knew that the MetroLacrosse girls would benefit greatly from attending the clinic hosted by Coach Lonergan and the Franklin Pierce Women’s Lacrosse team.”

Some participants of the clinic also chimed in with their thoughts “This was the best clinic I have ever been to. The coaches and players were so welcoming and had such great vibes” said Brianna Smith. Stephanie Contreras was quoted to say “I learned so much from the coaches and players at FPU. I liked how everyone was involved and I was able to get individual help during partner passing and stick skills.”

MetroLacrosse would like to give a huge thank you to Coach Lonergan, Coach Maddie, and the rest of the FPU Women’s Lacrosse Team for sharing their knowledge and passion for the game with our players and coaches at the Winter Thaw Clinic. They look forward to coming back again!
