Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication
Welcome to the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication
Named for the national press secretary for two U.S. Presidents, the Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication at Franklin Pierce University is a world-class center for teaching civic engagement through public communication. Home to the university’s nationally recognized polling operation and the Pierce Media Group, the Fitzwater Center sponsors programs like the annual Fitzwater Medallion Awards, which brings influential media leaders to campus to engage with students, and The Presidency and the Press, a summer journalism intensive for high school students. The Fitzwater Center’s facilities enable Franklin Pierce students to write, film, edit and produce programming for student-run television, radio, print and digital media outlets.
PoliticsFitzU is our student media organization that covers political news and events throughout the Granite State, including presidential campaign events in the first-in-the-nation primary, national party conventions, and even inaugural events at the White House. PoliticsFitzU students host Pizza and Politics, a series of on-campus conversations between community members and presidential candidates.
Franklin Pierce University partners with the Boston Herald, NBC10/NECN/Telemundo, and veteran pollster R. Kelly Myers to conduct political polls in the runup to the presidential election. Students participate in survey design, data collection and analysis, and media relations. Up-to-date polling results and analysis can be found on our website. Student and faculty commentators can be available to the press through the contacts listed below.
The Fitzwater Center is a founding partner of the Granite State News Collaborative, a statewide multimedia news collaborative whose members work together to add dimension and depth to reporting on issues of concern to the New Hampshire public as a whole, and to individual communities. Fitzwater students have contributed research, writing, analysis and production services to support this collaboration.
